How Can I Help You?
Recently my three-year-old was playing restaurant with my six-year-old. They were taking turns serving each other, using a play tea set tray and odds and end pieces of plastic pots and pans gathered from various other play sets. It was quite entertaining to hear them asking each other questions they frequently hear from wait staff.
Opening My Big Mouth
Does your mouth need a leash? I know mine does. I'm getting better at watching what I say and speaking only of those things that lift people up. But there is more to taming my tongue than just saying good things. It’s also knowing the right time to say them.
Getting Out of Here

I once had a dear friend named Ruth, who in her late 80’s sat enjoying a grilled steak one day, when she heard a radio announcer declare that barbecued meat wasn’t good for you. She stopped her beef-laden fork midway between her plate and her lips, paused for a moment in reflection, then shrugged her shoulders and said, “Oh well, I’ve got to get out of here somehow,” and popped the meat into her mouth and chewed with obvious delight.
Fried Brain
Have you ever had one of those brain-fry moments when nothing new can be learned or decided upon and nothing old can be recalled? I'm having one of those episodes right now. So much new information to learn at my job; formats, policies, names, locations, deadlines, personalities, campaigns, etc. Lord, I'm 44 and I know you can teach an old dog new tricks, but I do need a little extra assistance!

Here's my confession: I am weary. My to-do list is a mile long and my energy is depleted. I'm overwhelmed by all I need to do and desire to do nothing at all. I just want a day (or a week) to play hooky from Life. Would anyone miss me if I checked out for a short sabbatical? Life would go on without me, and not miss a beat. The clock would keep ticking and the calendar pages would fly off. Time stops for no man (or woman).
