"The jury reached the verdict," the bailiff said as he swung open the large courtroom doors. There was an instant hush in the crowd in the hallway. The jury spent three hours to make their decision—three hours that, to me, seemed like days. I gripped my husband's hand as we shuffled into the courtroom ahead of our two sons and the rest of our family and friends. Sitting stiffly on the hard benches, no one spoke.

I loved helping my mom plant flowers when I was little. I loved all the different colors and smells of each flower, and how they were all different and unique in their own way. My mom would always tell me to be careful when putting the flowers into the pots. I had to make sure the roots stayed intact to each other. I didn’t understand what was so important about the roots. She then began to explain to me that the roots are the most important part of the flower. No one can see the roots, right? So why are they so important? “The roots keep the flower strong. Since then mores, ethical behavior, and political correctness have been revolutionized, just as in the flight industry. What once was a glamorous position of stewardess is now described by the career-title, flight attendant, a sophisticated way of saying “jack of all trades.” Expected to serve meals, subdue terrorists, handle heart attacks, entertain babies, and placate irate passengers, they are not unlike our politicians of the day. All I can say is, we’ve come a long way baby.

I’m not much of a chef, although I have done some cooking. When I prepare meals on a regular basis I’m pretty good at it, but the task isn’t one I enjoy. I’m more of a fix-a-sandwich or throw-it-in-the-crock-pot kind of girl. Crock pot meals can be healthy and the convenience meets the demands of a busy schedule. When I place food in the ceramic pot, knowing in a few hours a mouth-watering meal will be served it reminds me of developing faith in God.

As one who has worked in jail/prison ministry for many years, including interviewing such notorious criminals as Charles "Tex" Watson of the Manson Family and serving as editor for the personal memoirs of David "Son of Sam" Berkowitz (both now dedicated Christians), I am concerned at the controversy over the fate of those who become believers after being convicted of a serious crime.
