Ministry Article: Tanzania Mission Trip

During the summer months, some people experience the doldrums of this season. Most churches slow down during the summer months due to vacations. Of course, these same churches ramp up their outreach programs as well. This summer, North Metro Church sent two teams to Tanzania. The first team consisted of fifteen members that left on June 15th, 2006 to work with African Inland Missions at their college in Tanzania.

Life Change: Alpharetta, GA

As a youth, I was blessed with two parents who were both Christians and honored their commitment to raise me according to the teachings in the Bible.  I remember reading a daily devotional each morning before school and going to church every Sunday.  I was active in the youth activities at my church and in the Boy Scouts of America through the completion of High School.  A couple of days after graduating, I was awarded my Eagle Scout award which was the result of many years of dedication and hard work.  That moment officially marked the end of my youth.  In the days that followed, I prepared to leave for Basic Training to begin my eight(8) year commitment with the Army National Guard.  At seventeen, I left the security of my home and family for the first time and stepped into a world that was unlike any other I had experienced before.

Life Change: Atlanta, GA

I am very blessed to have been raised in a loving Christian home where my parents saw the importance of raising my brother and I in church at a young age. My dad was called into the ministry when I was 10, so I assumed the role of a preacher’s kid and was at church every time the doors were open. Though I learned a lot about Christ and the Bible, there seemed to be a disconnect between what was in my head and what was in my heart. Until, at 15, I attended a weekend retreat where I first tasted the love of Christ as my own and realized that He was pursuing my heart for a personal relationship with Him. That Saturday night, I surrendered my life to Christ and told Him that I would follow Him wherever He would lead me.

Like most people, I was born into a home where my Mother was religious, but not a regular at church.  It was a single parent household and was not an easy life, but my mother worked hard to provide for both of us.  She allowed me when I was old enough, to find a church and religion that suited me.  My mom preferred me to know God rather than belong to a religion that was not comfortable for me.  Her heart was in the right place, but I wound up losing touch with God because of my lack of faith.  My life was not easy.
