Still Waiting
By Keisha Bass
Thirty-four years old, never married, no children. Does God really have a plan? His Word says that man is not meant to be alone. Doesn’t that mean I was meant for some man? I cannot tell you how many times I have had this conversation with myself. No, I’m not crazy, just lonesome sometimes. But however lonely I am, or think I am, that is no reason to rush into something that will leave me with a broken heart. I have been saved from potential heartache many times over. Each time I think it’s a good idea to settle for a man I am not equally yoked with, I am reminded God does have a good plan for my life. Although the temptation to compromise my values to satisfy my flesh is there, I do not need to act on my feelings because that can lead to issues later.
Momma Look!
“Momma watch me!” How many times a day do we hear that? It wears me out! I look, but then they want to show me again…and again. Whether it’s my 12-year-old upside down in a handstand on the wall, my third-grader showing me her most recent crocheted ankle bracelet (I’m wearing one now!), or my son showing me how he can lift the chair with one muscular arm, they all need my attention, encouragement, and delight.

When I think of Independence Day, I think of hot dogs, parades, fireworks, watermelon, and apple pie. Images and memories of days gone by bring a smile to my lips and joy to my heart. Memories of friends and family, bicycle parades, watermelon by the swimming pool, homemade ice-cream in the backyard, fireworks over the lake, lying on a blanket with my kids, awed by the magnificence of a firework display, are memories that I will hold for a lifetime.
You Did That On Purpose?
I wear my hair spiked up in the back in a style that sort of looks like bed-head. In fact, a lady once told me, “honey, I wake up looking like that, and I work hard to fix it”. I told her, “Well, don’t work so hard!”

As the Fourth of July approaches, citizens across the country are looking forward to picnics, firework displays, parades, barbecues, or just a leisurely day away from the demands of work. Independence Day is more than an opportunity for family and friends to gather for fun, food, and festivities – it is a celebration to commemorate the courage and faith of our founding fathers in their pursuit of liberty and the freedom to choose how they would worship God.
