Hello My Name Is

Hello, my name is Ronnie Wyatt. Well, it’s not actually “Ronnie”. My REAL name is Ronald. For some reason, my parents decided to give me a REAL name AND a NICKNAME at the time of my birth. In fact, they told people, “His name is Ronald, BUT we are going to call him Ronnie.” I don’t understand that. If they liked “Ronnie” so much, why didn’t they just go with that one in the first place? It’s like they wanted me to have two separate identities. On one hand I am the “official document signing, Ronald” and on the other hand, I am the “happy go lucky, Ronnie”. On one hand, I am about “Business” and, I guess on the other hand, I am supposed to be about, “Woooooooo”.
I asked my dad why they decided to give me both a real name and a nickname at the time of birth. He said, “Well, Ronald is your name, but we decided to call you Ronnie FOR SHORT“. Now, I am not a mathematician by trade, but I know a little about counting. By my calculation, both Ronald and Ronnie are made up of six letters! That’s not “for short”! They could have taken the “short” route. They could have called me Ron, that is definitely shorter. It’s also acceptable. Ron is short for Ronald, like Don is short for Donald and Tim is short for Timothy like Jim is short for, well…Jimothy. You know what I am saying!
What is the purpose for making a name shorter anyway? Do you really save that much time by dropping a letter or two off a name? I can’t imagine an elderly couple sitting around in the twilight of their life looking back and saying, “Our lives have been swamped! We have been pushed to the hilt! We have been on the edge our whole lives! I am glad we called David, Dave. Dropping that one letter really saved us some time. If we hadn’t God only knows what would have happened to us. We would not have made it!”
Sometimes I get confused about who I am. Am I Ronald or Ronnie? The great thing is that even if I am not sure, I know God knows who I am. Check out these verses, they are actually a warning to those who need forgiveness like me, “{Speaking of Eternal life with God} and nothing unclean and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Rev. 21:27)” and “And if anyone’s name is not found written in the book of life, he is thrown into the lake of fire (Rev 20:15)”.
You can call me whatever you want as long as I know that God has me written down! Are you listed in the book of life? You must accept Jesus as your personal Savior to be listed. What are you waiting for?
