In the mood for some music, but you can't decide between the edgy thought-provoking lyrics of Switchfoot and the instrumental wizardry of Nickel Creek? Now you don't have to deliberate, because both are combined in the great new group Fiction Family. Starting the process in 2005 by writing music together, Jon Foreman of Switchfoot and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek announced as of March 13, 2008, they would be “Fiction Family.” So what's in a name? In their Wikipedia entry, and March 10th interview with theboot.com, Jon Foreman is quoted as saying, “They are two words that hold a lot of meaning for me. I think that much of who we are as a culture lean towards fiction. As for the family of it, you have the entire nation that’s kind of looking for family. That’s one of the reasons why I like the name. Also both of us come from sibling bands and this is not a sibling band, so this is kind of a fiction family of sort.”

I first heard this band back in 2001 when their album Much came out, and I was excited to hear what has now become one of my favorite worship songs of all-time: “Unashamed Love.” From that time on I have been eager to hear new and refreshing music from these four guys which hail from New Haven, Connecticut. Lead singer and guitarist Lamont Hiebert founded the band with former members Austin Morrison and Tommy Lee. Currently the lineup is with Hiebert, Jonny Rodgers on the guitar, Colin Meyer on drums, and Tim Sway on bass. This band is truly a cut above the rest as their music is deeply vulnerable, passionately honest, and desperately mature. In a time and place where music has become predictable and shallow; leave it to Ten Shekel Shirt to lift your spirits and speak to you in a personal way.

In a day and age when music has become conventional and predictable, leave it to Waterdeep from Kansas City, Missouri, to break the mold and to shine out as a unique, expressive, and honest band. Waterdeep began when founder and co-lead singer of the group, Don Chaffer, attended Kansas University where he was constantly working and experimenting in the music scene in Kansas City, and where he would meet co-lead singer and future wife Lori Coscia (Chaffer) and they would form a band and begin to play. Through times of hiatuses and constant reforming of the group, the final lineup of the group consists of Don and Lori Chaffer as co-lead singers and guitarists, Brandon Graves on the drums, Kenny Carter on the bass, and Christena Graves on the keyboards.
