Are you the kind of reader who requires compelling action in a book to pull you along to the end?  If so, this probably isn't the kind of literature you want to purchase.  I can say with only a modicum of reservation that the majority of men wouldn't like this or be able to finish it.  I might have been tempted to halt in midstream, but I had committed to reviewing this book.  Is this an indictment of the writing?  Not at all.  The intended audience for this work is anyone who might deal with disabled people (which potentially is all of us at some point in our lives).  A secondary group of people who would embrace it are the incurable romanticists who can't resist the ebbs and flows of a male/female relationship. This book can be considered a romance, but goes far beyond the confines of that pigeon-hole.

The Ego Has Landed

"Space, the final frontier", starts out the memorable TV series Star Trek.  I'm convinced that is a correct statement–if being applied to the space between our ears.  Our brains are unbelievably powerful and complex computer-like machines.  And one of the most amazing things about our ability to think is our capacity to analyze the perceptions that strike us and the opinions generated by those insights into the way the world works. In my many years of pondering the universe, I've come to the conclusion that truth is like an onion.  Just when I think I've peeled away the last layer, I discover another one.  My recent foray into the world of writing and publishing has caused me to do some more peeling.  This layer I've exposed contains some very hard to swallow moral fiber.  As I broach this topic, I feel like perhaps Einstein did when he revealed his theory of relativity. Some people got it, but most shook their heads. What I'm about to write will not be extremely popular and may alienate you. Do I care?  Yes, but not enough to preclude doing what I feel led (hopefully by God) to say.

Book Review: The Restorer

Review from Christian Review of Books

The Restorer is Sharon Hinck’s first foray into straight fantasy and it is a wonderful read. First off, you need to know that I am NOT a fantasy reader. I couldn’t read JRR Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings or Hobbit until after I saw The Fellowship of the Ring. I simply couldn’t picture the worlds he created. Finally, my love for my husband and my sincere enjoyment of the movie pushed me to pick up those books. I enjoyed them, but I doubt I will read them again until my kids are old enough to enjoy them.

I'll give you two short reviews this month.  Neither of these flicks had the feeling of a full-meal-deal to me, so I'll give you two paragraphs on each.

When I read about the topic of A Perfect Day, I knew I had to see it.  The main plot deals with a husband/father who loses his job on the day he was supposed to be promoted. What does a red-blooded American do when faced with this sudden loss of income, security, and self-esteem?   Easy answer: he writes a novel, becomes an instant celebrity, and then has to deal with the success that follows, though not immediately since it takes a few weeks. (talk about fairy tales).  Our fearless hero turns to digging ditches  to support his family.  Fate in the form of an angelic agent saves him from the muddy trenches.  How does he repay the supportive agent after he hits it big?  I'll not tell you.  I have to wonder where I can find an agent like this one. She goes to his wife's aunt's funeral, which he doesn't even attend because of book promotions.
