Book Review By Roseanna White
Life is by all accounts good for Linda Revere. She’s got two gorgeous kids who are almost grown up, a wonderful husband of almost twenty-five years, a passel of fantastic friends, and a fulfilling job at Dream Photography. Okay, so her boss is a demanding grouch, her daughter’s attitude is getting really annoying, her friends all seem to have it better than her—and would it kill her husband to hold her hand in public once in a while? All around her she sees couples in embraces and little hearts practically floating over their heads. That’s when Linda decides to make a plan: she’s going to wake up the sizzle in her marriage before it can fizzle out entirely.

Movie Review: John Bakers Last Race

This movie was filmed in 1976 by Brigham Young University. I saw it soon afterward, and it had a great deal of influence on my life. I actually feature this film in a couple of my books with John Baker exerting influence on my hero to make a life-saving decision in his life. This is a movie that will require you have a box of Kleenex with you (unless you have a wooden heart). It is not “quote-end quote” Christian in nature, but it’s a heartwarming story of courage and compassion. The most emotionally gripping aspect of this low-key, acted-out documentary is that it is a true story. Unfortunately the movie may not be quite so accurate in handling some of the details. The movie might not have been so impactful if some of the anguish that John went through in his fight to survive was allowed to surface. On the other hand, that might have enhanced the story. Actually another movie on this topic called A Shining Season did portray some of the difficulty John had in dealing with his situation. I read the book, but I don’t think I saw the movie.

Movie Review: The Genius Club

I received my copy of The Genius Club with great anticipation. I'd been waiting for its arrival for several months. As soon as I got in from the mailbox, the DVD went into the machine (well – after a bit of wrestling with the adult-proof packaging). My blood was pumping double-time and my cerebellum (or should that be cerebrum) was ready for an intellectual treat. My review would be written right after I finished watching. Unfortunately, the reality of great expectations set in before I reached “The End.” Whenever there is something I consider wonderful before it's seen, heard, read or tasted, I’m afraid I raise the bar for the judgmental process. With my out of the ionosphere hopes for total enjoyment, my excitement was dashed like a football fan watching his team get trounced in the "big game." I put the review on the back burner with the possibility of it falling off the stove altogether. I was bummed because I really wanted to like this one a lot. Just to make sure I was not off base, I surfed the Net to find another review of the flick. The one I found was very well written and said exactly the same thing that was in my rough draft sketched out in my memory cells.

Book Review: Truffles by the Sea

Book by Julie Carobini
Review By Donald James Parker
Truffles by the Sea sports the most delicious cover I've seen on a novel. An oyster shell made of chocolate floating in a sea of molten chocolate carries a little beach chair, umbrella, a glass of lemonade, and a book. That beach chair just seems to invite you to plop down into it and start reading the book lying open on its arm. Ironically it was the chocolate in the story that caused me the only problems I had in reading the book. Gabriella, our heroine, has a tendency to run down to the candy store and buy chocolate whenever life is not going well for her. Let me suffice it to say, she is given plenty of reason to visit the chocolate shop. I've not read about a person with more troubles since I last picked up a Dicken's novel. And she always seems to be spending the last of her money to make the purchases, the part that grated on my frugal soul.

Movie Review: Tribulation (part 3 of the Apocalypse series)

There’s often criticism that the majority of Christian movies deal with the same subject: the end of the world involving the rapture and the tribulation. Perhaps this is a valid gripe because there truly are a lot of them. However, I believe that the three most interesting events in world history are the birth of Christ, the death of Christ, and the end of the world.
