Recently my husband, son and I were driving down a long country road to a conference, followed the entire time by a brown car. As we reached the outskirts of town, we decided to stop for gas. After filling up, we got back on the road but noticed police lights, sirens, and slow traffic up ahead. As we crept up to pass, we noticed the car that had followed us was in a head-on crash, and the driver was being placed on a stretcher. As we passed the scene we realized that it could have been us in the accident if we had not stopped for gas.

I can’t think of a more overwhelming role than that of parent. When a mother or father holds that tiny baby in their arms and they realize how dependent that life is on them, the feeling must be wonder and awe. Awe that God would entrust such a life to you who are, at times, not so sure how to handle your own life; and wonder or doubt that you will be all that child needs you to be. Abraham must have felt that same way when told he would be the father of a whole nation. But God knew Abraham’s fears as well as ours, and He has a plan.
Does Heaven Smell Like Brownies?

Or perhaps it’s like jasmine, or the way an orange orchard smells when the trees are blooming.
My son once asked me, “If you bounce a ball in Heaven, will it fall out?” What a great question! He took it for granted that sports are eternal.
Another time, my daughter and I were talking about friends who had recently passed away. “Mommy,” she said, “Heaven is the best place in the world, right?”
