Bernard Madoff swindled $50 billion dollars from thousands of investors worldwide, committing what some are decrying the biggest financial hoax in history. People burned and singed by Madoff's "Ponzi" scheme include private citizens, institutions and corporations. My heart goes out to the many people whose economic viability–the ability to pay today's bills and plan for tomorrow–was tethered to untruth.

I became intrigued a while back by this thing called “sustainable living” and launched a bit of internet research. I thought I might find echoes of wild and mystic over-the-edge alternatives… recipes for things like "cabbage ice cream" and "lentil smoothies"… 1001 beauty tips using backyard mud to achieve that healthy bronze glow. But the first website I found talked about “Sustainable Christmas” and it had practical, doable, sensible tips for healthier, smarter living.
