Songs and bumper stickers often misrepresent the Christian Life, and mislead believers into thinking they will be happy all the time. Happy is merely a feeling associated with circumstances. It is difficult for any human being to experience happiness 24/7 when God also created other emotions. Even Jesus wept.
Simple Service

For over 20 years, I’ve had a poem hanging in my kitchen. It’s printed on a thin sheet of some kind of metal, and mounted on a plastic, wood-looking round plaque. It’s not very pretty, and the author’s name has long since been rubbed away. I’ve tried to find the poem elsewhere, but I’ve never been able to find it again. So I will quote it here for you:
Get Busy Resting
Sitting is a rare occurrence for moms. It seems there’s always a mess to clean up, dishes to wash, dinner to cook, laundry to wash, dry, fold, iron, put away…and never mind any responsibilities outside the home! Moms get little time to rest, but we’re supposed to. We know it. Bewildered by the absurdity of when and how to rest, we keep toiling, striving, trying to get it all done—only to find that it never ends.
The Saddest Story I Ever Heard
Girl Days with a precocious five-year-old granddaughter. This particular day, from her safety seat in the back she noted it was important I keep both hands on the wheel. She commented on every building we passed as she accompanied me on errands, remembering with scary accuracy if and when she’d ever been there before.

Lately, it seems people everywhere are taking some nerve-taking test whether it’s educational, medical or measuring our faith. After all, we all know that feeling when we are sitting in a classroom or at the doctor’s office getting ready to take that do or die test. We all know the feelings, our muscles tense up, heart beats faster, palms sweat, and worse, our mind could decide to go blank and nothing seems to make sense.
