Tis The Season

It’s the season of giving thanks, celebrating the birth of the Savior and making goals for living a better life. Oh…the holidays! As I sit and write this I am recovering from an obnoxious cold that has just about gotten the best of me. I’ve been in the recliner for four days and I am pretty sure my poor family is tired of hearing me bark…I mean, cough.

I’ve had a lot of time on my hands. Something I don’t have much of during the holidays. I’ve blogged, read a book, written some, and watched too much television. I’m ready to get back to my real life.

After four days my body and mind start crying out for activity. I’m craving some cuddle time with my kids, I want to cook, laundry is even looking—well, ok…maybe not. But, you know what I mean. When you’ve been down, there comes a time when you are about to go crazy for some activity. I’m there.

But, it’s a season. A short season at that. Being sick is not forever. In a week I’ll be wishing I had this time to rest. In a month when I am head-first in every kind of imaginable holiday event, I’ll wish I had used this time to do online shopping. Truth is, even in this sickness, God has a plan for these minutes. My job is to embrace this life…even this day in this life…and do the assignment I am given. Because I am human, some of those assignments require resting. Something difficult for most moms, most women I know.

While I rested, I dove into my Bible and this verse came to my attention: Mark 6:31b—”Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” As I get older, I’m quicker to realize that God has a plan when things get crazy. He says….come with Me….get away….get some rest….commune with Me! I love this! It’s His invitation for a spiritual Spa Day. A time to get reorganized, reenergized, and sit at His feet and recharge.

I’m not a super-woman. Sometimes I forget. We all need a season in a quiet, restful place.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be more willing to sneak away for quiet moments with You. Convict me when I get too busy for those restful moments at Your feet. I love You Lord. You are my desire.

“Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while,” Mark 6:31b KJV.
