When A Door Closes. . .

 “When one door closes, another one opens.” It may be a popular saying, but oh, how true it is. Personally, I think it is something to live your life by. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” We need to believe that God has a plan for our lives and that it is good. Believe it or not, our Father does know best.

 So when that door on your relationship closes, or a job that you’ve had for a long time has ended, just look at it as God’s way of getting you prepared for the next door to open. He’s given you all you need to move forward in life. We just have to believe we have it and put it to use. Now, all of this, of ‘course, is easier said than done. But remember He is always with you, especially in the tough times.

So often we get depressed and think about what we may have lost in the process. But if we focus on what we have and continue to cultivate our relationship with God, He will reveal bits and pieces to us. Never the whole picture though because we probably wouldn’t be able to handle it. All that God has in store for us would be overwhelming if we got it in one dose. We have to show Him that He can trust us with the little things before we can receive more. We can just be comfortable in knowing that His plan is good and we will prosper, not be harmed, and have a future. 

Being a single lady for some time now, I have been waiting on that next door to a relationship to open and for Mr. Right to walk through. However, I must remind myself that God knows better than I do, and I may not be ready for my Mr. Right just yet. Or on the flipside, he may not be ready for me. Either way, God’s plans are always better than ours. So instead of me acting out of haste, and going to try to open up doors on my own, especially those that may be bolted shut, I should sit still and let God be God and just follow His lead. I know He is still working some things out in me, preparing me. And in the meantime, I need not waste another minute on feeling sorrow for myself, or wishing for what I don’t have. I can concentrate and focus on all that I do have: my family, friends, church family, job, co-workers, dreams, interests, hobbies, and most importantly, my relationship with my Creator. As long as I keep on my path, I know that He will deliver what He said He would. It will just be in His timing and through the door of His choosing.

I will trust in what John 16:33 says, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”

I may be in the world, but I do not have to believe what society or the media may say. I can choose to believe what God says and enjoy the peace He has given me in knowing that all He has planned for me will be greater that I could ever imagine. And when that door does open, I will be ready, willing, and able to walk through confidently and courageously because my Father has prepared me.
