Sea Shells

Since childhood days I’ve enjoyed walking along the beach, hunting for seashells. The beauty and variety of shells still amazes me. God created such details in these miniature homes. Yet the animal that made the shell leaves it behind, making a larger home with no need of the old home. The shells left behind are so beautiful that children and collectors seek and treasure them. The sea creature simply abandons the shell, moving on to the newness of the present.
God beckons us to come out of our small shells, carefully made, and spin a new one with Him. We cannot become so attached to the plans and life we have spun that we cannot move out and onto new plans when God calls us to new and better things. We cannot stop and worry about whether our work, beautifully spun and left behind might have someone new move in and quietly take over or that it might instead be crushed by the rushing waves of time.
Some shells become the perfect fit for a creature unable to make a shell but able to enjoy and use the one found. May we pray that what we begin and leave behind might be useful to someone else.
Prayer: Father, help me move onto new plans You have ready for me.
“Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them,” Isaiah 42:9 KJV.
