Prayer Reflections
By Roberta Ley
"Please, God, give me this one thing and I'll never ask you for anything else again.” Does that sound familiar? Have you ever prayed that prayer? Did it get answered? I would hazard to guess that it did not. One reason why, I think, may surprise you. First of all, why are you in a situation that such a prayer is necessary? Have you reduced God to being your last resort? So many people, Christians included, have put God in the same classification as that little glass box you see on the wall in office buildings; you know the one that has the fire hose and says "In case of emergency, break glass.” He is only there to help us once we have gotten ourselves in so deep that it will take divine intervention to get out.
Dance, Dance, Dance
My children are very musical. From very early in life, both enjoyed singing “their” song as I put them to bed. This habit led to numerous CD purchases and now as they grow older—musical instruments and toy microphones. However, what I didn’t expect is to see how quickly they began to dance.
Coffee, Tea, or Me

“Coffee, tea or me”. What a great word description for the change that has occurred over the past fifty years. Written in 1967, this phrase was immortalized in a book by the same name. Since then mores, ethical behavior, and political correctness have been revolutionized, just as in the flight industry. What once was a glamorous position of stewardess is now described by the career-title, flight attendant, a sophisticated way of saying “jack of all trades.” Expected to serve meals, subdue terrorists, handle heart attacks, entertain babies, and placate irate passengers, they are not unlike our politicians of the day. All I can say is, we’ve come a long way baby.
Cheese Curls
When I got married, I tried so hard to shop for the groceries my husband enjoys. But there was one particular item that I didn't get right until twenty years into my marriage. Russ likes the puffed cheese curls, but I have an aversion for them. When I was a kid I had the mumps, and that was one food I tried to eat that really made me sick. So I never ate them again. And I never bought them for Russ because I felt it was wasteful to purchase something only one of us would enjoy. Instead I purchased chips we both liked. Over the years, there have been a few times I have tried the crunchy cheese curls at sandwich shops, and I liked them! Not Russ—he hated them. So our dilemma continued. Now this line of reasoning just doesn't make sense. I buy coffee for Russ when I don't drink it. This last week, we were shopping together and noticed that these cheese curls were on sale two for one, and we could each get the kind we enjoy the most. We feel so spoiled this week to have our own bag of chips! Now why did this take so long to realize?!
Crock Pot Faith

I’m not much of a chef, although I have done some cooking. When I prepare meals on a regular basis I’m pretty good at it, but the task isn’t one I enjoy. I’m more of a fix-a-sandwich or throw-it-in-the-crock-pot kind of girl. Crock pot meals can be healthy and the convenience meets the demands of a busy schedule. When I place food in the ceramic pot, knowing in a few hours a mouth-watering meal will be served it reminds me of developing faith in God.
