Not too long ago I visited the beach in the town where I grew up. I was amazed at the amount of sand lost due to erosion from summer storms. I don't know how many thousands of dollars the state spent on beach restoration, but a good twenty-five feet of it was now back at sea. This day, it was easy to understand why. The wind, so strong it blew the huge beach flags almost perpendicular to the ground, crashed salty waves into the sandy shore. The ocean churned with each mighty wave acting as a giant scoop taking more sand out into the open waters.
