I Will Never Understand

I have been told that we grow wiser as we grow older.  While there is some truth to that, I still struggle with a few things.  Maybe you can help me with these.  Why does the sun lighten our hair, but darken our skin?  Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?  Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?  Why is abbreviated" such a long word?  Isn’t it scary that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?  Isn’t it scary that the man who invests all your money is called a “broker“?  Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?  Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?  Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?  You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes?  Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?  Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?  If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?  If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?  Why do they call them a pair of pants when there is only one?  It can’t be because it has two legs because they don’t call a shirt a pair of shirts just because it has two sleeves?  Why do we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway?

So many questions and so few answers!  I think the question that I have the greatest difficulty with is: Why does God love me?  I know that I have never given Him reason to love me.  I know that with all of the failures in my life, He shouldn’t love me.  I know that with the way I continually let Him down, He should probably stop loving me.  Yet, He never stops!  I know that He loves me because He has already proved it.  God tells us in His Word, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  (Romans 5:6-8)  “

Isn’t that amazing?  While you and I were still rotten old sinners, God proved His love by letting Jesus die for us!  No matter what you are going through today, never question the love of God.  Never doubt how special you are to Him.  His love for you is far greater than you could ever imagine.  Even with your failures, He loves you.  Even with your broken heart, He loves you.  He has already proved it.  Why don’t you try loving Him back?

Verse of the week:
“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 2:4-6
