Raising Chickens
By Ronnie Wyatt
A New York City yuppie had grown tired of the fast paced city life and decided to move to the country. Once he got settled in, the first thing that he did was to go to the local feed and livestock store.
He said, “Hello, I am new in the area and I have really been thinking about starting a “chicken farm.” “Well, it sounds to me like you are going to need some chicks” said the owner of the store. “Okay,” said the city slicker. “Give me one hundred of them.” "That's a lot of chicks," commented the owner. "I mean business," the city slicker replied. The owner proceeded to sell the city slicker one hundred chicks.
A week later the yuppie was back again. "I need another one hundred chicks," he said.
"Boy, you really are serious about this chicken farming," the man exclaimed. "Yeah," the yuppie replied. "I still have a few problems to iron out, but I think I‘ll get the hang of it." "Problems?" asked the man. “Tell me what they are and maybe I can help you." The city slicker looked at the store owner with a puzzled look on his face and said, “Exactly how close are you supposed to plant these things any way?"
Just because something seems right doesn’t always make it right. I’ll give you another example. I buy powdered milk and add water….I get milk! I buy a pack of powdered gravy and I add water….I get gravy! I buy baby powder and add water….see?
Do you know that the Bible speaks very clearly about trusting in what we think is right. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Our way is not always the best for us. Regardless of how good we think it is, it could lead us down the wrong road.
In Proverbs 4:11-12, God says, “I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble.” This promises us that if we follow His way we will never stumble or be hindered. His way is always the right path!
Now I ask you, have you checked with God about that big decision that you have to make? Have you talked to Him in prayer? Have you listened to Him talk to you through His word, the Bible? If you haven’t, I beg you to stop and seek His counsel. If you have not prayed about it and continued steadfastly in His word, then you really don’t know what He wants. If you have and He has already spoken to you, what are you waiting for? Do what He wants! He will bless you real good!
Verse of the week:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5
