Weary In Well Doing

Here's my confession: I am weary. My to-do list is a mile long and my energy is depleted. I'm overwhelmed by all I need to do and desire to do nothing at all. I just want a day (or a week) to play hooky from Life. Would anyone miss me if I checked out for a short sabbatical? Life would go on without me, and not miss a beat. The clock would keep ticking and the calendar pages would fly off. Time stops for no man (or woman).
I turned to the Scriptures for advice and comfort. I found in 2 Thessalonians 3:3, that it says, “But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.” That sounds good enough, but there are no how-to instructions for accomplishing this. I read the context before and after the verse, but found no advice for the weary.
Here is the key: I must WAIT on the Lord. Then He will equip me to live life out loud, with renewed strength and purpose.
I share this transparent life lesson because I know many are weary today. We feel like we are sleep walking—just putting one foot in front of the other-going through the motions of life. When this happens, we need to rest in the Lord and wait on Him to equip us with what we need for our daily duties. He is our daily bread. We get what we need when we need it, much like the manna that was provided for the wandering Israelites.
We must wait. Waiting is one thing that unnerves most Americans. We are impatient—seeking instant results. Perhaps God wants us to wait because it gives us time to “be still and know He is God,” Psalm 46:10. In Mark 4:39, Jesus says, “Peace, be still” and the winds and the waves obeyed. I believe when we still the winds and waves of stress in our lives, we will find that peace He is talking about.
Today I am waiting. The weariness will pass. Will I run again? I'd be content to walk!
PRAYER: Father, help me to be content in the waiting. Help me look forward to the peace that comes with being still and resting in You.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint,” Isaiah 40:31 KJV.
