Wise advice from Kids

A group of kids were asked the question, “If you had one chance to give someone some helpful advice, what would you share with them?” I believe that their practical wisdom can be helpful to us all.

9 year old, Patrick said, “When your dad is mad and asks you, 'Do I look stupid?' don't answer!" I guess you can say that some questions are not meant to be answered.

7 year old, Chloe said, “When your mom is mad at your dad, don't let her brush your hair." I guess people do take their anger out on others, don’t they?

12 year old Mitchell warns, "Don't sneeze in front of people when you're eating crackers." It is true that people are watching what you do.

14 year old Michael said, “Never ever tell your mom that her diet's not working.” We should be sensitive to the feelings of others.

10 year old Emily shares the oh so wise advise of, “If your Dad ever asks you to pull his finger, run the other way!“ Well, I’m not sure what to add to that, but I do understand completely.

6 Year old Frankie wants us to know, “If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.” I guess it is probably best to forgive than fight.

9 year old Randy, who has obviously experienced some painful situations, said, “Never ever squat with your spurs on!” It is true that life can be painful, huh?

Which brings us to the comforting advice given by 10 year old Joel. He says, “The best place to be when you're sad is in your Daddy’s lap.” While all of these are very practical, this may be the deepest in truth. Life does bring to us painful situations. Sometimes we cannot make them go away. In those times, the only comfort that we can find is when we crawl up into our Heavenly Fathers lap.

God’s Word gives us a beautiful picture of the comfort that our Heavenly Father will give us in our time of need, “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken (Psalm 62:1-2).

Does your soul need rest today? It can only be found in God. He is the only one that can deliver you. Does the rest of the world seem to be sliding out from under you? He is the Rock that gives you a firm foundation on which to stand. Do you feel like you are being attacked by the enemy? God is your Fortress. He is the one that you can run to for shelter and protection. If you do choose to run and jump into your Heavenly Fathers lap in your time of need, you can rest assured that you will never be shaken!

As a kid, I remember having disagreements with other neighborhood kids. Till this day, I still believe that I was right. I kept trying to tell them, “My Dad is bigger and stronger than your Dad.” I still think it was true about my earthly father. The more I grow to know my Heavenly Father, the more that I know it’s true about Him. Trust God for your protection. Trust God for your strength. Trust God for your rest.

Verse of the week:
“Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
