Keeping the Faith

It seems everyone is being affected one way or another with our current economy. Since January, I have met many people who are sharing an apartment or allowing families to live in their basement. In March, I discovered several of my friends are losing their jobs because there is not enough money to pay everyone. Also, the food co- op has been at a slow pace, and people are staying closer to home for vacation. With everything that has been going on with the economy, how does one keep the faith?

One of the ladies I met in a Bible group told me she will be losing her job when the month of May comes to a close.  Despite possible hardships, she stated she felt secure the Lord will guide and comfort her. After all Jesus is the light that will guide us through the thick fog that lies ahead.  Now, I don’t know exactly what the Lord has planned for her, but I do know He will give her the guidance and security she needs. Even though she hasn’t lost her job yet, she already feels the Lord’s comfort.

Unfortunately, many people will suffer longer than others due to extenuating circumstances.  Hopefully the wait will not be long and something great will come out of it. No one likes being out of a job or losing a house but the waiting can determine how much faith we have. It can also give you time to focus more on him and receive his best when the perfect job comes. Waiting can definitely determine many things about you and your faith.

Thank goodness for the Christians who hear the calling for helping others in need. Anyone can go to any local shelter and serve. Any food drive is rewarding. Donating clothes or giving money to a local charity or church is another way to help serve. Also, for those who feel comfortable, many decide to open their home to those in need. Believe it or not, the least bit of help can really go a long way.  I’ve known some to even cook for a family. What a blessing it would be to help anyone in need. God will console those in need and he will bless those who hear the cry of the needy. So in hard times, keep the faith!
