Answered Prayers
By Ronnie Wyatt
Little Johnny had wanted a shiny red bicycle for a long time. When he asked his grandmother what he needed to do to get his desired gift, she told him that his best bet was to pray and talk to Jesus about it. So, he went upstairs and began to petition the Lord.
He began his prayer, “Dear Jesus, I have been a good boy the WHOLE year, so I want a new…" Then he thought about what he was saying and decided that he needed to be honest, so he adjusted his prayer.
He restarted by saying, “Dear Jesus, I have been a good boy for MOST of the year, so I want a new…" Then he realized that this may not be the most accurate statement either, so he again changed his prayer.
“Dear Jesus,” he began, “I have been a good boy for SOME of the year, so I want a new…" Realizing that this to was just not true, he pondered what he could do to get his prayer answered.
Finally, an idea came to his mind. He ran out of his room into the street where he ran until he found the nearest Catholic Church. He snuck into the church and grabbed a statue of the Virgin Mary and tucked it under his shirt. He hurried home and entered back into his room to pray again.
This time he began his prayer, “Dear Jesus, I have your mother. If you ever want to see her again…”
Do you know that you do not have to make God hear your prayers? In fact, He wants to hear you in your time of need and answer you! Look at this wonderful promise from the word of God, “You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; You encourage them, and You listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more (Psalm 10:17-18).”
God wants to encourage you, defend you, and comfort you in your fears. His throne room is open twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week to those who have trusted in His Son, Jesus Christ. “Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16).”
Jesus has experienced all the same struggles, trials, heartaches, and temptations that you have. He understands your situation and He is waiting to help. All you have to do is cry out and trust Him to meet your need!
Verse of the week:
“But because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” Bebrews 7:24-25
