“Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust”
(Psalm 103:13-14 NASB).
My husband and I adjusted the super-sized ladder to the highest setting, then handed our son the Swiffer extendable duster. His assignment? To clean the tallest ledge inside our home.
Dust bunnies cowered as our six-foot-five son climbed to the top of the ladder, stretched his long, lean arms, and annihilated any and all hidden dust creatures. Every ledge, shelf, top of cabinet top, nook, and cranny succumbed to the Bunny Bustin‘ Buffaloes.
How can one small herd make so many messes, and where does all that dust come from? Cleaning is never-ending. I’m still waiting for the invention of the wash-and-wear house.
I must admit, I have lots of personal dust problems. I’ve wallowed in my share of slimy sin pits, and I can’t even claim ignorance. I knew better. But sin doesn’t always appear that bad and often looks appealing, rolling along like small dust particles, collecting other sins until the first thing you know, dust bunnies invade. More than a duster is needed to remove the trail of dirt and grime.
Fortunately, someone washes away our sins – Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16-17 NIV).
“‘Come now, let us reason together,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool’” (Isaiah 1:18 NIV).
“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” (Isaiah 44:22 NIV).
Amazing love—compassion that reaches out to messy humanity and offers a way for redemption. Christ sweeps through our lives, dusts us off, and busts away sin’s filth.
Thank You, Father. Thank You, Jesus!
