I can’t stop thinking about this year, especially after I looked back at some of the important stories for 2008. Take Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in California. He hosted a meeting with President-elect Barack Obama and with John McCain. This forum heighted the evangelical vote in a new way, at least for me. And when the Olympics aired from China in August, I read how tens of thousands of bilingual Bibles and New Testaments were printed for the Games.

A man approached as I walked to my car from a restaurant. “Sir, Can I ask you a question?” Thin and middle-aged, he wore a polo shirt and cargo shorts.
I stopped.
“My family and I were traveling back from relatives and our car broke down. We’re stuck in this hotel over here.” The man pointed to a hotel down the block. “And we don’t have enough cash to get a room. I hate to ask, but do you have a couple of dollars?” He had the delivery of a used car salesman.

A Swing and A Miss

Standing in his backyard, little Joey threw the ball up in the air and said, “I am the greatest hitter in the world!” With that announcement, he swung his bat completely missing the ball. Picking it up, he continued with his game. Throwing the ball in the air, he exclaimed, “I am the greatest hitter in the world!” Again, he missed the ball. Once again, he tossed the ball in the air making his proclamation, “I am the greatest hitter in the world!” For the third time, he missed the ball.
