It’s Got To Be Love
By Ronnie Wyatt
An older couple regularly attended church. The pastor was much impressed by how harmonious and how in love they seemed. They always held hands all through the service.
One day after church, the pastor couldn't resist going up to them to express his admiration. He said, "I find it so inspirational to see how deeply in love you are, even, after all these years, holding hands like that." The wife looked up sharply and said, "It's not love, Pastor, I'm just keeping him from cracking his knuckles."
I guess some times the love that others have for us can be questioned, but do you know that you can never question God’s love for you? He has already proved it to you. You may be asking, “How can he say that?” Well, I am glad you asked.
Almost everyone reading this has heard the heart cry of God from scripture. I’m talking about the love filled whisper that comes from John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Please re-read that verse again. God loved you so much that He gave up His Son for you!
Let me be a little more specific about how He gave Him up. God’s word says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Isn’t that amazing? God showed us His love by allowing Jesus to die for us. That is an absolutely incredible thought to me. How could He love us so much? I know I personally have never done anything to deserve that kind of love. All I can do is humbly accept it.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I could never love anyone enough to let my child die for them. Yet, God did that for you and me! The more I grow to accept God’s great demonstration of love, the more it changes the way I view circumstances that happen in my life. If something horrible happens to me, I may not understand it, but I do not question God’s love. If a tough trial comes into my life, I may not agree with it, but I do not question God’s love. If I am mistreated by someone, I may hurt within, but I do not question God’s love. No matter what happens to me in this life, I can never question God’s already proven love.
I guess we can say that we must view everything in this life in the shadow of the cross. Whatever unfolds, blind sides, or just plain knocks us for a loop…..From God’s point of view and with what He already proved on the cross… "IT'S GOT TO BE LOVE!" If you would like to know more about how you can experience God’s proven love for yourself you can get yourself a Bible and read the “Gospel of John” and let God whisper, “I love you” personally.
Verse To Meditate On:
Jeremiah 31:3 – "…Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
