Matthew 20:29-34 [paraphrased]  As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed. Two blind men sat by the roadside, and when they heard Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" Jesus stopped. "What do you want me to do for you?"  "Lord," they answered, "we want our sight." Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

“Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Mommmmmmmmmy. I want a drink, a snack, a hug, a kiss, a story. I want … you” This is my life.

But you know what I've realized? My kids have figured out things we grown-ups seem to have forgotten.

1. To get anything, you have to ask.
2. When you think you're being ignored, ask again.
3. If still in doubt, ask louder.
4. Never doubt you are loved.

When did we decide to quit asking God? Who told us we weren't important? That the needs held close to our heart didn't matter to Him? Take lessons from the toddlers. It never hurts to ask.

Does God ignore us? Never. Do we sometimes feel ignored? Undoubtedly. Does it ever hurt to ask? No, and again, our toddlers have this concept down cold. Situations change, minds change, the world changes. Ask Him.

Ask louder. God never ever wants us to stop talking to Him, even if it involves jumping up and down on the couch, shouting. See how we're still taking notes from the two-year-olds?

Finally, even when the answer is no, we still find ourselves wrapped in His loving embrace at the end of the day. He doesn't promise yes's. He doesn't promise no pain. He doesn't promise we'll understand. But he does promise that we'll be gathered close and held. Embrace your inner two-year-old and bounce into the presence of God. You'll be blessed, and your world will be changed.
