Some Folks Are Just Pessimists

Bob was an avid duck hunter that was in the market for a new bird dog. His search ended when he found a dog that could actually walk on water to retrieve a duck! The first person he wanted to show his amazing new friend to was one of his hunting buddies who was an eternal pessimist. This hunting buddy of his refused to be impressed with anything.

The owner of the water walking bird dog invited his pessimistic friend to go hunting with him so that he could show off his new companion. As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flew by. Bob fired and a duck quickly fell into the pond. The dog responded and jumped into the water. The dog did not sink, but instead walked across the water to retrieve the bird, never getting more than his paws wet!

Knowing that his friend had to be impressed with the dog, Bob said to the pessimist, “So, what do you think about that?”

His friend, never cracking a smile said, “He can't swim can he?"

Are you the type of person that always looks for the worst in situations and in people? Are you the person that always has something negative to say to others? If you are, do you realize that you are cutting yourself short of God’s blessings? Look at what God‘s Word has to say about that.

“All of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. (1 Peter 3:8-9)”

Did you catch that? God desires for you to be compassionate to others. He desires for you to love others. He wants you to be tender-hearted and courteous to others even if they are being evil to you. Why does He want this? Because when you bless others, God will bless you!

Maybe the reason that you don’t feel blessed by God is because you don’t try to be a blessing to others. I challenge you to find someone that you aren’t usually nice to and try to be a blessing to them. God promises to bless you back!

Verse of the Week:

“If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?.”   1 John 4:20
