Watch Out For That Tree
By Ronnie Wyatt
A state trooper pulls over a car on a lonely back road and approaches the driver. "Sir, is there a reason you're weaving all over the road?"
The driver replies, "Oh officer, thank goodness you're here! I almost had an accident. I looked up and there was a tree right in front of me. I swerved to the left and there was another tree in front of me. I swerved to the right and there was another tree in front of me!"
Reaching through the side window to the rearview mirror, the officer says, "Sir, that's your air freshener."
Like that driver, too often we lose focus of “the road” when we pay too much attention to other things. Are you guilty of that? Do you focus more on life around you than God and His work? Here is a little test to help you see what you are most focused on in your life. Take a look at two things. 1. Your Calendar, 2. Your Checkbook. Where do you spend your time and your money? Remember, you have the freedom to spend both ANYWHERE you wish. The question is, how much of those two areas are God-focused in your life?
We all know that we are too busy most of the time. In fact, I am a firm believer that the rarest commodity in today’s world is “time”. In the past, everything from money to property to liquid assets has been the goal of life yet, what we crave more and more in our busy world is time. If we only had MORE TIME! The truth is that we may as well accept the fact that 365 days, 24 hours each for 7 days a week is all we are going to get (except Leap Year, of course). The real question is what are we doing with it? How much of it is spent advancing the Kingdom of God and focused on Him and His purposes? We can do that anywhere at anytime, the question is, do we?
What about finances? How much do we actually give to be a blessing to others and make a difference for Jesus? While we all have different amounts that we are entrusted with, God still expects us to be a part of HIS work not only physically, but financially. Honestly, do we spend more on hobbies and habits than we do making a difference in the lives of others and promoting the cause of Christ?
The sad part is that we are missing out on great blessings ourselves when we focus so much more time on EVERYTHING ELSE rather than the things of God. Pray about it. Ask God where and how you can be more focused on Him and His Road for you than the air fresheners swinging in front of you. Be cautioned: You might just be blessed more than you could have ever imagined if you do obey what He tells you!
“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
