Saving All The Seats
By Ronnie Wyatt
A man lay sprawled across three entire seats in the posh theatre. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the man, "Sorry, sir, but you're only allowed one seat."
The man groaned but didn't budge.
The usher became impatient. "Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."
Again, the man just groaned, which infuriated the usher who turned and marched briskly back up the aisle in search of his manager. In a few moments, both the usher and the manager returned and stood over the man. Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move him, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police. The cop surveyed the situation briefly then asked, "All right buddy, what's your name?"
"Sam," the man moaned.
"Where you from, Sam?" asked the officer.
With pain in his voice Sam replied, "The balcony."
They assumed that he had an attitude problem when there was a greater problem going on in Sam’s life. Are you guilty of that sometimes? You meet someone that doesn’t “set well” with you and you automatically place them in your “I don’t want anything to do with them” or “what a jerk” box that is hidden in your mind and heart, when the truth is that you have no idea what is going on in their life. You have no idea what type of sorrow or pain may be crushing their spirit. You have no idea what hurt may be keeping them from experiencing joy.
Do you know what God’s desire is for you when you meet someone that appears to have a problem? Assume it’s true! Assume they do have a problem and try to be a positive light in their lives. God’s word says, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matt. 5:14-16).”
Maybe you are just what they need! Just maybe God brought them across your path so you can shine some hope and joy into their life. So, next time someone doesn’t “set well” with you. Say to yourself, “what can I do to be a blessing to them?” They may need a little light! So, with that in mind, go ahead and hold up your index finger. Pretend it’s a candle. And sing with me…”This little light of mine. I’m gonna let it shine..” Go ahead and sing. You know you want to! It’s okay no one is looking.
Verse To Meditate On:
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.” Isaiah 60:1
