Paramedic Angels

“For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways“
Psalm 91:11

Years ago, during a rather rough physical time, our young son prayed for “Paramedic Angels” to be in and around our home. The next night he prayed for “angelic ambulances.” I like that idea. We pray for healing, comfort, and strength as we go through the trials of life, why not paramedic angels?

The next day, I sat in a surgeon’s office. He examined, poked, prodded, and pronounced his diagnosis. With a quick cortisone shot and a prescription for physical therapy, I was on my way. Excited about a non-surgical diagnosis, I called friends and family. On the way to the car, I couldn’t find my keys in my purse. I found them firmly locked in the car and still in the ignition.

The call was made for an auto service and I waited back inside the building. My eyes and ears perked up when a fire truck and ambulance pulled up with lights flashing. Paramedics hopped out and wheeled in a gurney, and a few minutes later returned with a man to take to the hospital. After they had the man safely in the ambulance and on his way, I explained my predicament to the remaining firemen and asked if they had any way to open a car door.

Fortunately, they were glad to help and soon the car was unlocked. After a round of thanks, I was on my way. Then I remembered my son’s prayer. Paramedic angels had helped me through the night and angelic ambulances helped me through my day. God is so good! He loves us through the pain and He loves us through our silly mistakes. No prayer request is overlooked, no prayer is too trite or silly. God loves His children and loves to help them. All we have to do is ask.

“When we pray, He is so close to us that He may as well be leaning over the edge of heaven and bending down to hear. His presence through His Holy Spirit literally surrounds you as you pray. His eyes are fixed on your face, on every word you say, and on every expression you make.” Beth Moore

How precious the thought! He is waiting for you to call. Talk to Him about everything, envision His presence surrounding you. Regardless of pain or uncertainty, you can be assured of His listening ears, His strong arms, and perhaps the brush of paramedic angel wings.

““I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.” Psalm 17:6
