Where is the control?

“Some of you say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to some city. We will stay there a year, do business, and make money.’ But you do not know what will happen tomorrow! Your life is like a mist. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away. So you should say, ‘If the Lord wants, we will live and do this or that’” (James 4:13-15 NCV).
In healthier days I felt anything could be accomplished. I would throw a quick prayer over my shoulder and jump in with both feet. My poor husband never knew what I would try when he left for work. When we lived in Illinois, our house had a tiny back stoop made of concrete—no deck or patio. I decided I could make a patio. Books were read, notes made, materials purchased, plans made, and a tiller rented. A male neighbor provided the manpower to wrestle the industrial sized machine out of the van and around to the back yard.

When Chipper was a puppy, he escaped whenever we opened our front door. He thoroughly enjoyed the chase as his family screamed like wild people for him to stop. One getaway occurred when my husband and I were in need of surgeries, and our son had asthma. The puppy was the only healthy one in the bunch.

Ring, ring, ring, goes the phone as I was sitting down to begin my much needed to do list. My busy schedule, once again, has flooded my brain with many tasks like BSF (Bible, Social, Fellowship), my lesson writing for The Christian Pulse, and grading those papers that are, of course, due tomorrow. Yikes! I say to myself, "when am I going to be able to get all of this completed?"
