George Muller answered the call from the Lord to help poor children in England in the 1800‘s. He believed totally and absolutely in the power of prayer and the power of His Lord. Not once, did he tell anyone the needs for himself or the ministry—except God. There were many times grace was said over empty plates only to have food delivered before the prayer was finished.
Page after page of his personal journal reveal God’s daily, consistent, provision for every need—clothing, food, and shelter. Each and every need was met.
During his lifetime, without ever making a plea on the behalf of the needs of himself or the Lord’s work, eighty-two missionaries were supported, 4,000 Bibles were distributed, over 1 million tracts and portions of scriptures were handed out, 117 schools were established which educated over 120,000 children, and through the orphanages he cared for 18,000 orphans.
He recorded in his journal to show God’s faithful provision. “It is true that the faith which I am able to exercise is God’s own gift. He alone supports it, and He alone can increase it. Moment by moment, I depend on Him. If I were left to myself, my faith would utterly fail.” (1)
Year after year, day after day, moment by moment, George Muller took his needs and the needs of those who were in his care, to his Heavenly Father. He believed resolutely in the verse… “And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 AMP).
I marvel at his testimony and wonder why haven’t I believed?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please forgive me. Forgive me when I rely on my own strength, forgive me when I look to people or work to meet my needs. Open my eyes to see that all I have is Yours and all I have is from You. Help me to exercise more faith, to walk in trust of Your abundant provision and believe without wavering that You will supply all my needs.
Praise You Father! Praise You for Your total sufficiency.
I ask these things in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who is my Savior and Redeemer,
Amen
