Book Review By Roseanna White
Life is by all accounts good for Linda Revere. She’s got two gorgeous kids who are almost grown up, a wonderful husband of almost twenty-five years, a passel of fantastic friends, and a fulfilling job at Dream Photography. Okay, so her boss is a demanding grouch, her daughter’s attitude is getting really annoying, her friends all seem to have it better than her—and would it kill her husband to hold her hand in public once in a while? All around her she sees couples in embraces and little hearts practically floating over their heads. That’s when Linda decides to make a plan: she’s going to wake up the sizzle in her marriage before it can fizzle out entirely.

If you needed one word to describe Ryan Wilkins, although it wouldn’t quite do him justice, that word would be inspiring. With a raw, unplugged sound that brings you as close to an artist as you could ever want, you immediately feel the words that Ryan has turned into songs.

This movie was filmed in 1976 by Brigham Young University. I saw it soon afterward, and it had a great deal of influence on my life. I actually feature this film in a couple of my books with John Baker exerting influence on my hero to make a life-saving decision in his life. This is a movie that will require you have a box of Kleenex with you (unless you have a wooden heart). It is not “quote-end quote” Christian in nature, but it’s a heartwarming story of courage and compassion. The most emotionally gripping aspect of this low-key, acted-out documentary is that it is a true story. Unfortunately the movie may not be quite so accurate in handling some of the details. The movie might not have been so impactful if some of the anguish that John went through in his fight to survive was allowed to surface. On the other hand, that might have enhanced the story. Actually another movie on this topic called A Shining Season did portray some of the difficulty John had in dealing with his situation. I read the book, but I don’t think I saw the movie.

The aptly titled 2007 release from DSM, “In The Midst Of Chaos” highlights the confusion and discontentment in the world today. This band gives hope and a promise of a new day even in unsettling situations. As the world searches for answers to the questions that overwhelm, DSM musically proclaims the solution; our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
