One of the most promising Christian Rock bands today is Julian Drive hailing out of Athens, Georgia. This alternative rock band has an amazing quality to their sound; deep, substantial lyrics; an amazing lead singer with great tone and soulfulness to his voice yet it has a driving force that compliments the hard rock tempo. This band is comprised of lead singer and guitarist Shane Bowers, Shaun Bennett on keyboard, Jesse Triplett on guitar, and on the bass is James Nitz.
The band started when Shane and Shawn were leading worship for a small church in rural Georgia. Jesse and James later on rounded out the band and they won a major Christian talent contest that sent them on a journey to becoming a full-time band; leaving behind their jobs and lives to pursue music. They have played for some of the biggest names in Christian music today such as David Crowder Band, Building 429, Superchick, Disciple, and numerous others, and have played at major concert events such as Winterfest 2005 and have already performed hundreds of concerts in their young career as a band.
Their debut album, My Coming Day, which is set to release on January 27, 2009 is already gardening buzz from radio stations all over the country. Originally slated to be an independent project; Julian Drive grabbed the attention of the president of InPop Records, a major record label, and are now signed by them and their album is their first and only major album from InPop.
Their single, “From Your Hands,” is a heartfelt cry about how we need to understand that even when we experience hurt and pain and are struggling in our life, that God knows and that from His hands we can experience a peace and a comfort that nothing else in this world could ever give. It is a reminder that His love that can give us that peace and comfort came through the price that Jesus paid on the cross for our sin. Other songs on the album such as “Always There” and “Cry” display how polished and professional their sound is, yet has a raw and deep passion that can be felt by anyone listening to the music and words that flow out. A surprise on the album is the track “The Reason,” which is a cover of a popular Hoobastank song that hit the charts a few years ago and they do a very respectable job at keeping the song’s essence alive, yet they put their own unique spin on it. This is one band that will continue to find success in music not because of their amazing talent, but because of their heart for the Lord to impact people’s lives.
