“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear…who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?  Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Matthew 6:25, 27, 33-34

Do you worry? Do you lay in bed at night debating all the what-ifs? Do you wake up in the morning and have a split second of peace before “Kaboom!” – then the worry flattens you and ties your stomach up in knots? Do you worry that you worry too much? For most of us, worrying should qualify as an Olympic sport.

We are pretty lucky. As a rule, we don't have to worry about our next meal, or the clothes on our back, or where we're going to sleep at night. We've moved up on the worrying food chain.  We worry about our job, our kids' friends, global warming, and cell phones causing cancer. And, most of our reasons can be chalked up to one thing, pessimism. Murphy's Law – If something bad can happen, it will. Eeyore Theology 101.

Sitting in Bible Class the other morning, I was stunned when our teacher commented, “Optimism is biblical; pessimism is not.” My immediate response was disbelief. “What? I've never seen that passage in the Bible!” But the more I think about it, the more I realize it's threaded throughout the entire message, and one premiere example is above. Do not worry.

God's got our back. Could we have anyone more powerful on our team? No. Then how on earth do we have the audacity to worry? We've been promised an abundant life; we've been promised the victory; we've been promised life everlasting with our eternal Father. It gives new meaning to don't worry, be happy, doesn't it?

Not only should we not worry, we should wake up every morning bursting, overflowing with joy, ready to spread the word. Change the world – you betcha!
