Artist Spotlight: Above the Golden State

Quoting Michael Watson, songwriter and lead vocalist of the Portland, Oregon based band, “Music is from God and for God. And I believe God is raising up a new generation of young musicians who want to see music being used for its original purposeto glorify God.”  Above the Golden State also consists of Brook Mosser (drums) and Tim Alyward (keyboards); all of which are familiar to the music scene.

Many times we hear and read of the hype and the negative press that accompanies the music today, but it’s refreshing to know that God has musicians and singers who are passionate about Him. I believe that musicians, aspiring singers and songwriters can be “passion-driven” for Christ.

“Sound Of Your Name” a song from their newest release that is available at iTunes and Amazon.com is an acoustic guitar driven album filled with hope and reverence. I highly recommend listening to the tracks “Love” and “Comeback” as well as the other 12 tracks that will heighten and intensify your love and appreciation for all that God has done for you. You can purchase mp3s as well as the album. As a recipient of God’s grace, I know that Jesus is the only name that is above all names!  Salvation and abundance is encapsulated in His glorious name.

“Above The Golden State” has no desire to bring glory to itself but to join in with you and everyone else to glorify God together. We know that we can’t find our worth in anything other than Jesus Christ. We are in this together. We are the church, the body of Christ; this music is to fix the gaze of our soul on Jesus, our Hope of Glory!  These songs are meant to be sung in the heart and mind of the listener, like a soundtrack to our lives.
