Artist Spotlight: All Worship One

Fernandina Beach, Florida band All Worship One is a Christian rock band consisting of Christopher Walton on lead vocals/acoustic guitar, Blaine Dickinson on lead electric guitar, Brandon Thompson on bass guitar, Jonathan Foster on rhythm electric guitar, Lauren McCullough on keys and backup vocals, and rounding up the group is Brock Dickinson on the drums.

Their sound is interesting because even though they are rock-driven and have a great mainstream sound, they have balanced the mainstream sound with a believable worship core.  That makes their music as entertaining to listen to as it is excellent to worship God with.

According to their website, their mission statement might not be verbose, but it sure sums up why they are performing their music: “Jesus is THEIR message, worship is THEIR purpose, and music is THEIR tool” (capitalization theirs). That is a statement that every Christian band should aspire to because even if the band is not a “worship” band; their purpose should still be to lead the church into an intimate time with Jesus.

All Worship One’s EP, More Than a Name, released in 2008.  It has great guitar-driven, drum-pounding, lyrically-relevant music that makes their sound extremely well-rounded.  It is a combination that you do not find much in modern rock/alternative music today. Their song “Redefined” speaks about how the grace and mercy of God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ has not only given us life but has transformed us on the inside with the character of His Son.  This song is a soulful rock-ballad that is emotionally driven with the message of God’s love and salvation.

“One Touch” is an excitement-paced song that deals with how nothing is impossible with God and how just one touch from Jesus’ hand can make all the difference in a life. It sheds light on how that void that everyone has in their life can be filled with the presence of God and how one can experience fulfillment and peace only in Him.

“Mountain” is a beautiful expression of Matthew 17:20, which says, “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” It expresses how there will be tough times in our lives and how we will face situations that will test our faith and times that will try to take our faith away; but how with faith in Jesus Christ and His infinite power, we can conquer obstacles in our lives. I also loved how the song said “I am not going around this mountain anymore… but I belong on top of this mountain shouting your praise.”

Their most popular song “Letting Go” is a catchy, punk-driven, electric song about how if we truly want to be used by God, we need to surrender every selfish desire, goal, and focus to God so that He can instill His will in our lives for His glory. This song is somewhat of a departure from the rest of their songs but it is very well written and it is as worshipful and thoughtful about God as it is hard-hitting and guitar-ripping.

Between the excellent guitar arrangements, solid drum beats, a foundational bass line, and deep rock-filled vocals. All Worship One has successfully melded the art of alternative rock with praise and worship music, making their music highly enjoyable for any Christian that loves both.
