In a world that’s obsessed with celebrity and reality TV, Allison Bottke brings a new novel to the scene that will satiate the appetites of those American Idol lovers, and nurture their souls a little too.  And it all starts with One Little Secret…

Nik Prevel grew up in the limelight.  Son of the Great Cristoff, king of the love song, Nik came by his singing talent honestly.  His goal was always to have a career brighter than his father’s, separate from his father’s.  But in order to take the next step, he needed a partner, a new voice, someone to help him on a top-secret project that is sure to set all of Hollywood abuzz.

Ursula Rhoades gave up her dreams of operatic fame to raise a family.  She made her husband’s dreams her own, getting that partnership in his law firm.  But her son is in grad school, her daughter is just leaving for college too!  Her husband is caught up in a case that could make his career.  And, Ursula is left with a lot of time on her hands.  She never dreamed when she had a chance encounter with Nik Prevel that he might be the answer to her ennui.

One Little Secret is a fast-paced, engrossing tale of Hollywood glamour clashing with suburban values. Ursula, a strong Christian and devoted family-woman, is pretty much the opposite of Nik, who is so caught up in the fast lifestyle of the celebrity elite that Ursula might as well be from another planet.  Putting them together equals a lot of tension, some funny moments, and insights for both.

I really enjoyed the story, it addressed everything from family woes to dreams of stardom to reaching out with Christian love.  I expected it to be more character-driven, but it instead focused on plot, moving quickly through the months and mysteries.

Fun, light and thoughtful all at once, One Little Secret is a great choice for a summer novel.  It’s quick and delightful, keeping the pages turning until the whole world knows the secrets that had spiraled out of control.
