Most every musician is passionate about their art form. They pour over their music and lyrics, and the words blood, sweat and tears become more than just a powerful analogy, but an actual reality. One of the things that really sets Christian musicians apart from secular artist is that the music is only an avenue to something much bigger.
Spur 58 bass player Steven Bush sums it up nicely. "Music is a gateway to connect with people," says Bush. "If we take what we do behind the guitar or mic as our ministry, we're missing the point. That's only about 10 percent of this. When we come offstage, truly engaging with the audience and connecting with where they're at, that's the beauty of what we do."
And this attitude truly shines through as the fab five of Aaron Ivey, Chad Martin, Jimmie Ingram, and Steve Bush pour out their musical talent for the glory of the Lord.
The band's latest release, Sleepwalkers, attempts to shake the world from its slumber and prompt Christians to seek a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines “sleepwalker” as 1 : to walk while or as if while asleep 2 : to proceed in a passive often lethargic manner"
Front man Aaron Ivey lays it down straight as he states, “We're sleepwalkers. We're going through the motions and we forget all the life around us. If you’re going to claim to know Jesus, you’ve got to wake up.”
One cannot help but be stirred from slumber as this passionate and hard-working band brings their God-given talent to the stage. Spur58 began crisscrossing the country performing about 200 shows a year, proving that they are willing to go the extra mile just to reach one more soul.
The soulful and powerful music coupled with the heart-felt and anointed lyrics open the door of the heart, but it’s the band's dedication to move off the stage and reach out to listeners that truly makes Spur58 such a blessing.
