Each of us has a moment in our walk with the Lord that we can look back on and see that it changed us forever. Most ministers I’ve known tell me they experienced a moment when they fought the Lord’s call to purpose and another moment when they finally surrendered. Even in my own life, I can pin-point a defining moment, a time of complete surrender.
For Adam Cunningham, it seemed to have come during a time of miraculous healing involving his son. According to a recent press release, this was the moment that he turned his life back to God and rededicated his musical talents to serving our Lord.
With songs like “Ways Unseen” and “Don’t Let Go” the southern rocker brings a soulful and sincere presence to the music scene. He opens up his heart for God and invites us along for the ride. Most of his songs are so contagious that you can’t help but close your eyes releasing your own worries and fears to the Lord; resting in His arms.
The song “You Are My God” brings to the fore-front our absolute need to be dependent on God. Though it highlights our common deficiency in this area, the message will inspire any listener to stand and lift up holy hands by the time the chorus is proclaimed; singing loudly:
“Your are my God and You'll never change
You are my rock and You'll always remain
When others fall down and the ground falls away
You will stay the same”
Songs like “Glory Down” had me reminiscing of my southern roots when I listened to CMT with my Grandmother on a lazy summer’s day. The upbeat, slightly southern-fried flavor hits the spot as it shouts out a joyful sound mixed with a few screaming guitar riffs.
Despite marvelous musical talent and soulful vocals, it is Adam’s heart for worshiping God that really makes him shine. At the end of the day, when you put down the guitars, drums, and keyboards it’s really the song from our heart that our Lord is looking for and in Adam’s most recent self-titled album, it is truly that song that comes through.
