 Jonathan Walden

CD/Song Compilation – Cross Country California
Genre: Folk/Worship
ByAaron S. Harris

We decided to change the genre and review a Christian musician with a folk/acoustic vibe. Jonathan Walden, a 31 year old singer/songwriter has been playing guitar since he was 14 years old. He wrote his first song at age 17 and has been honing his skill ever since. He was recently featured on a pod cast called "The Morning Commute" hosted by Eric Vardeman.

When Jonathan is not performing in the Nashville and Atlanta areas, he is creating new material. His style is unique and all his own. Jonathan intrigues listeners with lyrics that fuel you to dig deeper.

His style incorporates solid guitar playing with words that paint pictures in the minds of those who listen closely.  Jonathan's love for Christ is really the driving factor that motivates his passion for music.  Some of Jonathan's influences over the years have been:  Mark Knopfler, whose guitar has inspired many melodies; Marc Cohn, and Kevin Prosch from The Black Peppercorns.  Albums by Bob Dylan, John Hiatt, and Tom Petty provide some of the inspiration for this young musician.

When I asked Jonathan about his motivation for writing "Cross Country California", he recalled a memorable trip out West that had inspired him.  He said, “A friend and I had planned a climbing trip to Southern California to climb Mt. Whitney.  It would have been an eight pitch climb with rope and gear.  But, the trip fell through at the last minute.”  The memory of an adventure that could have been lives on through this song.

On a different note, he has faced many road blocks associate with being a Christian artist.  But, road blocks are only to be expected in the Christian life, especially from peers.  Jonathan said, “If you are of the light, you are very visible to those in darkness and many times, those in darkness want to have nothing to do with you.  Keep praising Christ, that's all that matters.”

Jonathan has been focusing his time lately on fine-tuning his material.  And, he will be making his way to Nashville soon to record a Demo CD.  He is in the process of recording new songs including "Here I Am", "Casting Shadows", and "It Will Come".
