(NASHVILLE, TENN.) — Newly formed Christian record label KTC Music has signed singer-songwriter Gregory Paul Smith to a long-term recording agreement. Produced by Eric Copeland and engineered by Grammy-Award winner Ronnie Brookshire (Nichole Nordeman, Michael W. Smith, Wynonna, Steven Curtis Chapman), Smith's debut CD, I Can Live Again, will be released May 29th through a partnership with Creative Soul Records and Infinity Music Distribution.

Never a stranger to artistic expression, the former All-American jazz trombonist has logged time as the frontman for Christian rockers Mars Hill Band and as a member of the southern gospel quartet Calvary Echoes. Desiring to embark on a solo path, Smith decided to pursue a music direction more suited to his personal influences such as Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, David Crowder Band and the Eagles.

“I accepted the Lord at 14, but spent a lot of time making my own decisions,” Smith explains. “When those choices failed, I began to get very angry with God and I spiraled into a phase of inner turmoil and utter despair. But I remember very clearly falling on my knees one day at home, shouting out to God and praying for Him to take away my feelings of worthlessness. It was seriously supernatural how He began to lift me out of my misery and bring a silver lining into all of this.”

After restoring himself with the Lord, his musical desires came back at full force and he began exploring various production options. After sending out some demo packages with his long time friend, business partner and executive producer Heath Bechler, Creative Soul Records called him to Nashville for a meeting. Soon after, Smith was in the studio recording his debut CD with a cast of A-list session players, including bass player Matt Pierson (Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith), drummer John Hammond (Amy Grant, Russ Taff), guitarist Tom Hemby (Amy Grant, Faith Hill, Rob Thomas) and highly sought after keyboardist Jason Webb (The Crabb Family, Newsong).

I Can Live Again tackles Smith's struggles head on, as with the title track and first radio single, which cites Smith’s own ordeals, along with David’s redemptive path throughout the Psalms. “Broken” contains equally weighty subject matter, as does his uplifting cover of the classic "Solid Rock," which addresses the idea of relinquishing control and laying one's problems on an altar of spiritual abundance. Smith is especially fond of the concert favorite “Beyond Tomorrow,” a track about living each moment to the fullest without fretting about the next.

“Everybody has their own problems that they can reference and apply to this song,” Smith cites of the latter. “With me, it got to the point where I couldn’t continue on my own and I began to experience what Christ has to offer. In doing so, I quit worrying about what I can’t control. Instead of living one day or even one hour at a time, I literally live out every moment at a time as I try my best to serve Him.”

With that in mind, Smith makes it clear he’s not interested in amassing recognition, but rather making a personal connection with everyone he encounters along the way.

“I have a real heart to present where I’ve been and all that God is currently doing in me, but also to listen to people’s problems and be a listener long after the concert is over,” he adds. “It doesn’t matter if it’s a coffee shop, youth rally, pastor’s conference or just any old show. I want to meet people where they’re at and serve their needs in any way that I can.”

An aggressive media campaign is underway for Smith's debut, with an advance CD and EPK currently available. The title track has been serviced to radio, and a national television tour will include appearances on Faith TV, FamilyNet, JCTV, Lesea Broadcasting, INI and general market morning shows around the country. A music video has also been shot, with servicing through Aristomedia planned for early May. In addition, Smith will be meeting with various media outlets during Gospel Music Week in Nashville, with a showcase performance scheduled at BB King's Blues Club.

"We're very excited to be partnering with KTC Music here at Infinity Music," said Brad Mathias, Vice President of Infinity Music Distribution. "Gregory Paul Smith represents the core values of our mission here at Infinity, an annointed and talented independent artist whose voice deserves to be heard in today's CBA and beyond."
