JASON GRAY SIGNS WITH CENTRICITY RECORDS
Debut CD, All The Lovely Losers, scheduled for March 6 Release With First Single
“Blessed Be” Going For Adds At Radio
Nashville, TN —— December 20, 2006 —— Innovative singer/songwriter, Jason Gray, has signed a recording contract with Centricity Records and his first CD, All The Lovely Losers, is scheduled for a March 6, 2007 release. The first single from the debut album, “Blessed Be,” is already going for adds at Christian radio.
“I can’t adequately express how excited my wife, Taya, and I are to be ‘invited to the party’ at Centricity records,” says Gray. “Not only do they have great hearts, but they are wise, passionate, and collaborative. We’re grateful to be working with the great people there, such as John Mays and Steve Ford, who are willing to help me take my ministry to a new level. It’s my hope that our work together will help me better serve and be a good steward of the work I’ve been given to do.”
All The Lovely Losers, features thirteen original compositions that were either written or co-written by Gray, who is known for his heart-felt, thought provoking lyrics. The CD features guest performers, Sarah Groves, Andrew Peterson, Lori Chaffer of Waterdeep, and Joel Hanson of PFR. The central theme running throughout the project is brokenness; as individuals, as a church, and as a world. However, Gray shows us that brokenness becomes strength when we turn it over to God. And Gray knows a lot about brokenness as his parents divorced when he was young so he grew up with an abusive stepfather, which led to Gray developing a stutter that he still has to this day.
“I’m actually grateful now,” Gray says, “that my speech handicap never afforded me the option of masking my weakness behind an illusion of competency. Whenever I opened my mouth, there it was for all to see… I couldn’t fool others or myself. I think the best thing that can happen to us is to be ‘found out’ for all that we are, our religious and human pretenses stripped away to reveal our sin, pettiness, and weakness. Then we can devote our energies to better endeavors than the constant masquerade of sufficiency. The added benefit is that people are able to see how God’s grace works in a real person’s life. When we come clean about our brokenness, Christ becomes the star of our testimony and not us.”
And Gray’s struggles parlay into his insightful songs that touch so many people. All The Lovely Losers spotlights such tunes as the first single, “Blessed Be,” which is an uptempo Brit-rocker that features Joel Hanson. The title for the CD came from a line in the song, as it says how the broken will inherit God’s kingdom. “The Cut” was co-written with Sara Groves and the tune describes how God breaks us down in order to build us up. The composition is delivered with an intimate and soothing delivery, as Jason’s and Sara’s vocals blend so beautifully on the song.
Gray, who has been described as one of the best kept secrets in Christian music, credits Sara Groves with giving him an important start in his career. He was a successful independent solo artist and Groves invited Gray to play guitar on some of her tour dates. The guitar-playing stint led to an opening slot on Sarah Groves’ tour and led to opening for additional acts, such as BarlowGirl and Shaun Groves. Gray eventually recorded two independent projects before garnering the attention of Centricity Records and leading to his first national release, All The Lovely Losers,
