FBI profiler Brady Moore and special agent Alicia Wagoner, in Comes A Horseman , run right into this chilling scenario as they hunt down a crazed, butchering serial killer who has crossed state lines. In these grisly Pelletier murders, a pack of wolf dogs restrains and savages victims while the killing blow is made with an ancient-type war axe. The book is fast paced, seat of your pants stuff. Don’t let the length put you off. It’s a page turner.

Brady and Alicia cannot find a link between the murders, except for the method used. Emotionally damaged and still mourning his wife’s death, Brady realizes he is a target of the killer and moves his young son to a safe place. The tender scenes between Brady and his son give us a break from the terror and tension. Then it’s back into the soup.

My Review:

I do not wonder that Cindy Woodsmall is a NEW YORK TIMES best-selling author. Her books have depth and width as well as giving the readers characters they can love.

This story shows people who listen to the lies of the enemy and keep painful secrets instead of getting help with healing from them. The way she crafts the story takes you into the very hearts of these people and leads you through the healing process. And there are many surprises along the way.

I highly recommend this book for your growing Christmas reading list.

Retha McPherson thought she had it all. Then fate stepped in and showed her that she had been mistaken. Her twelve year old son, Aldo, was critically injured in a car accident. The grieving mother discovered that her walk with Jesus had been superficial, even though she had been a devout Christian. The ingredient she had been missing was intimacy with her Heavenly Father and with Jesus. During the time when her son struggled to survive, Retha established that rock solid relationship that was lacking and contagiously gave it away to her husband. And when the boy recovered from his coma, he had stories to tell of his visit in Heaven. Included was a message that he was to tell everyone that Jesus was coming again soon. Of course, a skeptic would quickly point out that a brain-damaged person is not a reliable witness. The mitigating factor is that the boy awoke and was able to quote scripture copiously. Before the accident, he had been a normal kid who paid attention to boy things and not God things. The instruction from the Lord that came down, they were to write a book about the whole experience and share it with others. And this paperback is the culmination of that commission from the Lord. I think God is pleased with the result.

Artist Spotlight: Gavin M. Cox

Thinking about people in the UK might often conjure up images of uptight, reserved, and orderly ladies and gentlemen who are prim and proper and run their lives just so. Not for the British Gavin M. Cox—or at least not judging by the photos on his Web site—this Christian artist enjoys the laid back beach atmosphere, unbuttoned shirt, and barefooted bliss of relaxation.

With over 150 songs available, Cox has remained a busy songwriter for many years. And being featured on different British TV and radio programs is a plus for him. However, what really sets him apart from other Christian artists in his genre is his versatility and overall quality. One moment his music has elements of Steven Curtis Chapman, then the next it sounds like something that Nickel Creek could have sung. Songs like “Love Lift Me Higher,” “Hold On to Love,” and “Love is the Reason Why,” all make love the ultimate goal in life. While songs like “Leap of Faith,” and “Hear My Cry,” are songs about God and to God.

Old Dogs

Movie Review By Nike Chillemi

I couldn’t believe my ears! I tuned into one of those morning shows as the perky blonde sitting between two handsome newsreaders discussed current movies. They gave thumbs up to one about cannibalism — as well as to one with a lesbian character, an adulterous affair, and physical violence within a family. Why am I surprised? They said Old Dogs was simplistic in its humor.

That’s not what Spence thought. I don’t personally know Spence. He’s about eleven and was sitting in front of our family, the Friday after Thanksgiving, laughing his head off at all the movie’s high jinks. It was the four o’clock show, the theatre was packed with preteen kids, and during coming attractions another boy called out stuff like, “Hey Spence, what kind of candy did you get?” You get an idea of the crowd.

Old Dogs gave me the feeling it was the cinematic child of a cross between Caddyshack and The Parent Trap. Dan (Robin Williams) and Charlie (John Travolta) were childhood chums who stayed friends and started a successful sports marketing company together. Dan, the fussbudget numbers guy, went through a divorce and the wilder Charlie took him to “celebrate” in Florida. Under-the-influence Dan got a huge tattoo on his chest and married Vicki (Kelly Preston), a complete stranger.
