Fit to Be Tied
A few weeks ago, while making dinner, I called Crislynn (my nine-year-old) to come set the table. Davis (her seven-year-old brother) came with her and said, “Can I help her, Mom?” They had their arms around each other. I about passed out! Together? They wanted to do something together? And they were touching each other without shoving! They’d been at each other (about to drive me nuts) for weeks now. In disbelief, I told them it was fine with me. Then I noticed that they were walking funny. When I looked around the cabinet, I saw it—they were tied together.

My car had been dirty for so long that when it was washed, waxed, and vacuumed this weekend, it seemed like a new car. I can't believe I rode around all this time in such a filthy car. It didn't start out that dirty, but gradually became so over time, beginning with a thin layer of dust that I ignored. Guess I had become so comfortable in my mess I didn't “see” the dirt anymore.
The Garden
Today I strolled through the Butterfly House and Gardens at the Adult Probation Department in Paris, Texas. The experience left me refreshed and relaxed. There's just something about nature—the greenery, the flowers, the scent of a recent rain that overrides any stress and burden. The probationers work hard to keep up with a vegetable garden used to feed people in special programs. The process of gardening has the capability of changing lives for the better. No one can be involved with God's green Earth and not be touched by His hand of blessing. Anytime a person witnesses the plant breaking through the seed, the bud opening into a beautiful flower, or a butterfly emerging from the chrysalis, they are changed.
Black and White

I often long for the days when the good guys wore white and the bad wore black. An incident a few months back reminded me of why. A girlfriend and I had just pulled through a drive-thru when a man walked up from behind my car to ask for directions. It wasn't until he leaned toward my open window that I began to panic. My doors were unlocked and we were blocked in from a quick getaway. If the man really was lost I wanted to help, but I couldn't tell if he was a good guy or a bad one. Where was that white hat? I didn't find one, but all ended well—the man got the help he needed and we were safe. Jesus has a better identification program than white or black hats.
