Is anyone else fed up with their New Year’s Resolutions? January 2nd I’m on fire about my lengthy list of goals and then a couple of weeks into the year I realize something–my list is too long and I’m miserable. It doesn’t work for me to make too many goals at once. I get overwhelmed and frustrated. I now make goals that will be with me for a lifetime, not just a quick fix to get me through the first weeks of January.

We are on the road again…heading out to a remote part of Texas with vistas so wide and diverse that you might think that you were viewing more than the landscape of one state. This morning the air was crisp and fresh with the frosty due covering the hood of the truck and coating the shell of our Airstream, making it shine like a sparkling diamond. We spent yesterday bringing the “silver twinkie” out of hibernation and loading up with food, clothing, and enough books to last a season even though we only have about 10 days to take in the wide open spaces.

Lost and Found

In the midst of one of the coldest winters on record, a new storm was in our local forecast. With a cold front blasting toward us, I was dismayed to hear my son announce his winter coat was missing. We thoroughly searched every closet and corner of our modest home, yet came up empty-handed. Neither did we find it at Jack’s taekwondo school, where he spends a significant amount of his time. And it wasn’t buried among the other misplaced hats, coats, and gloves in the “lost and found” crate at his school. Naturally, I began to believe that Jack’s coat might actually be gone for good and my heart began to fret. My son, however, took another approach, choosing faith rather than fear. “Don’t worry Mom,” Jack said calmly, “God knows where it is. My coat will turn up.”
