Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Have you ever found yourself between a rock and a hard place? It is an uncomfortable place to be—between two difficult choices, between two options that both seem good or both seem bad, while needing to make a decision that has consequences we don’t like. As children, many of us learned that making wrong decisions was the ultimate mistake so we choose to make no decision. Later we came to understand that no decision is indeed a decision. So, how are we to make difficult choices? Where do we find the wisdom to make good choices? God has the answer in a simple gift He calls wisdom.
The implication here is that wisdom is not something that comes from study, a strong character or will, or even from a good heart. True wisdom—Divine wisdom—is a gift from God and all we have to do in order to receive it is to ask. In asking for it, we are reminded that it is God’s wisdom we are seeking and are therefore totally dependent upon Him to receive it. When we ask for His wisdom, He promises to always give. He never tires of providing it.
PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, for Your perfect wisdom that is always available for me. Help me remember to seek it whenever I find myself in difficult circumstances. Thank You for Your faithfulness in providing it no matter how many times I ask.
“But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5, NET).
