Here Comes the Judge

If you are my age or older, you will remember a hilarious skit on Laugh-In called, “Here Comes the Judge.” I must admit, I’m addicted to court-TV shows. Since my husband and I are gone all day, we tape the various shows and watch them in our off hours. I can confess to watching at least six different court shows over the past year. But we have our favorites. I think the reason we like the shows so much is because the judge gets to say things we would love to say in order to right the wrongs in this world. They sometimes even go so far as to preach at the offender, when necessary, in hopes of a wake-up call—a type of reality check. It amazes me, the different types of people who show up on these programs. They represent the baser sorts in this world. Do they not realize how they will come across on television? Do they not have a clue that the judge will chew them to shreds?

A Women’s Shelter case dear to my heart was heard before a real judge in our county. The photos provided to the judge indicated the brutality behind the injuries caused by the batterer, proving not only what he has already done, but what he is capable of doing. I would like to think our court systems are always fair, but unfortunately there are the times when the innocent are convicted and the guilty go free. It is difficult to explain this to the victim who is seeking justice. Life isn’t always fair. But, because of the law of reaping and sowing found in the Bible, we can hold on to a peace of mind, knowing that sometime, somewhere, the offender will come face-to-face with offenses, and will be held accountable for them. There is even a common term for this: “What goes around, comes around.”

I’m grateful to know there is one Judge who is fair. He desires justice. He holds the sinner accountable for sin. And I’m equally grateful for a Redeemer who has paid the price of that sin so that the Judge looks at my case and proclaims, “Pardoned!”

What advocate will represent you on that Judgment Day? May Jesus be both the attorney and the reparation in your case. What a day that will be!

PRAYER: Thank You Lord that You are just. You see the good and the evil, and although I may not see justice with my own eyes, You see everything and reward it accordingly. Help me to sow seeds that will bring attention to Your greatness. Thank You for loving me even when I mess up.
