Murphy’s Laws of Marriage

I wish I’d known about Murphy’s Laws of Marriage a long time ago.

Husbands will only attempt to fix a leaky faucet if you’re in the middle of meal preparation.

Husbands will inevitably turn off water to the whole house for an indeterminate amount of time, reroute something that WAS working, and leave the project to go the store for more parts—in direct proportion to how much laundry and how many family members need to take a shower. They will fall apart when a sales person puts them on hold, but expect you not to fall apart when you have a flat tire with three toddlers in the car, groceries thawing in the blazing heat, a skunk circling the vehicle, and no extra diapers for the baby.

They can justify any number of expenditures for things housed in the garage or workshop. Anything living inside the house is automatically too expensive.

Whatever shirt you hate the most is the one he’ll wear every Saturday.

The more important the occasion, the more likely he is to make rabbit ears (or devil horns) above your head during the photo opp.

The classier the restaurant, the less likely that will be his choice for your anniversary dinner.

Murphy’s Law of Marriage says that if you are dishing up the plates of spaghetti, he’ll still ask, “How much time before supper?”

I wish I’d known about Mercy’s Laws of Marriage.

Mercy’s Law says it’s not only appropriate but wise to pre-forgive a man.

Mercy’s Law of Marriage says that everything God wants to see happen in a church, in His world, He wants to see happen in families and couples.

Mercy’s Law says that it’s hard to stay angry at someone you’re praying for.

PRAYER: Lord, by Your strength and with Your love coursing through me, I want to live by Mercy’s Laws.

“I will walk in the way of integrity. When will You come to me? I will conduct my business with integrity in the midst of my palace (own home),” Psalm 101:2 NET (parenthetical phrase added).

Cindy, you’ve given me quite a laugh this rainy afternoon! gasp!
But more than that, you’ve put a catchy name to the law of love. Even a great marriage of 32 years needs to be reminded of Mercy’s Law of Marriage.

    Thanks,
    Robin
