The Lifter of My Head

When the delivery guy brought the flowering plant, several delicate blossoms danced above a mound of glossy, wide leaves.

Three days later, the stems of the blossoms drooped like overcooked linguini. I’d forgotten to water the plant.

It’s not often that the florist delivery team stops at my house, so I felt especially bad that in the rush of other concerns, I’d neglected such a simple thing as water.

Apologizing to the sad blossoms, I gave the plant a drink anyway, but didn’t have the heart to deadhead the blooms.

A couple of hours later, the flowers had apparently forgiven me and revived to their pre-neglect, showy status.

I was grateful. For the plant, and for myself.

The Bible tells me that God is “the lifter of my head” (Psalm 3:3).

And how well I know it.

When the cares of life drain energy from me, He’s the lifter of my head. The Lord is the one who refreshes and revives me. Even when it would seem hopeless, He pours His life into me so I can shine again—or in this case, blossom.

PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, that You never neglect me. If I’m drooping, it’s because I failed to drink. Your Word revives me, Lord. Hold me close to that source of refreshment.

“Thou o Lord art a shield about me. You’re my glory and the lifter of my head,” Psalm 3:3 KJV.

You do have a way with words, Cynthia, and a way with the heart. Makes me thirsty for a good long draught of God’s Word just to read this.
